“How to Manage Pain in the Elderly provides an overview of pain assessment instruments, evidence-based pain management strategies, and pain management considerations at the end of life. This book is a nice addition to a growing body of literature that will assist nurses in providing more effective pain management to the older population.”

“This comprehensive text exposes myths about pain management in seniors. It goes well beyond pain as the fifth vital sign by focusing our attention on the complexities and key issues in improving the quality of pain management in older adults. How to Manage Pain in the Elderly provides readers a critical analysis of the evidence; supplies details about dosages and drug potency; and highlights often-overlooked aspects of pain in terminal patients, nonverbal patients, and community living older adults. The author also addresses the important issues of which drugs to avoid and what side effects pain medications may cause. This book presents a practical and multifaceted approach to improving pain management in older adults. It is long overdue.”
